Feel-good Films

Have you ever had that victorious feeling of having enough spare time to watch a movie but then not knowing which one to watch? Or have you invited friends over for a chilled movie night but couldn't find that perfect movie? Then this is the post for you. I have compiled a list of a few "feel good films" suitable for watching with friends (or without) so that you can feel good at the end of your next movie!

The Greatest Showman
A (relatively) new release movie which has some people singing along and other people covering their ears. "The Greatest Showman" is a musical that follows the (somewhat true) story of P.T Barnum who founded the first Circus. This movie highlights important issues about acceptance, racism and vanity and although admittedly it is cliche and recycles a typical romantic storyline, it is the perfect 'feel good movie' for any lovers of musicals.

The Holiday
This movie is a bit of a 'chic filck', romantic comedy, but it definitely comes under the category of a 'feel good film'. Iris and Amanda are both heart broken and depressed after
losing their boyfriends and arrange a house swap online to take a break from their sad lives. One of them ends up in a Californian mansion while the other in a picturesque log cabin in country England and both women bump into new chances at love. A hilarious, entertaining movie with a heart-warming ending (some adult scenes) which is a great movie for a girl's night in.

The Wizard of Oz
Surely everyone has seen this movie and if you haven't: why not? A classic movie (another musical) that has been around since 1940 and is one of the most well known movies. Dorothy lives on a farm in Kansas and wishes she could escape to somewhere else. Only when a tornado whisks her away 'over the rainbow', she realises that maybe it was much better back home. An entertaining movie that just about any audience will enjoy.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
When three unique siblings become orphaned with an evil count wanting to steal their inheritance, what do you get? - a good movie. Based on the first three novels by Lemony Snicket, the story revolves around these children who have passions for inventing, reading and biting things. Count Olaf (Jim Carey) will go to any length to get the money that the children's rich parents have left for them. This movie is very sad and might scare a very young audience but is undeniably a 'feel good movie' in the end.

Hugo
This movie is set in steampunk Paris and is based on the novel, 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret'. It is about an orphaned boy who lives working the clocks in a train station and the story of how he finds a family. Truly heart warming and meaningful for all types and ages, it is funny, sad and interesting all at once. If you haven't seen "Hugo", you should definitely see it.

Hidden Figures
This is the story of three very intelligent, African American women working at NASA in a time when they were not accepted for their gender and race. Very uplifting and powerful, this movie shows the struggle these women face to keep their jobs and comply to the rules of society that separate colours and genders.
A very happy ending and important message comes with this movie. I would highly recommend seeing it.

That is my list of what I take to be some "feel good movies" to watch with friends and family or alone on the couch. I hope that you found this post useful and will go and watch one or more of these movies now! Thanks for reading my blog.
