Hostage- Karen Tayleur


In all honesty, I wasn't very impressed with this book so I want to give you my real opinion on it. Hostage looks like a really gripping, intense, scary book with a blurb that entices you in.

"I don't remember the knife. I remember something cold on my neck, which could have been a knife, or could have been his cold fingers pressing into me ...  And then we were in the car. And then we were gone."

I found that there were some flaws in the novel which made it not as intense as it seems.



The book begins with a girl named Tully who is at a police station being interviewed about the previous 24 hours when she was taken as a hostage by a kid from her school. The problem here is that I know already that Tully is fine, so whatever happened to her while she was hostage must not have been that bad because she is clearly fine afterwards. Then point of views are changed between Tully ultimately lying to the police, to what actually happened, to what Tully says happened. All three are similar and therefore end up repeating events multiple times which I found frustrating. On the other hand, this allowed the character of Tully to be built up a lot and gave the reader an insight into her life. Overall, I was disappointed by the lack of suspense in the novel but enjoyed the interesting story it involved.



Those were my thoughts and you may think what you wish about them. If you want to read Hostage, go ahead, you may like it despite what I write and I hope you do. I simply write my reviews because I enjoy reading and reviewing and some people may find them useful. By no means am I telling you what you should and should not read. I stocked up on books from the library to read over the holidays and one of the books I picked up was  A Monster Calls  by Patrick Ness. I am a hungry bookworm who is constantly hunting for new, delicious books to devour. Up until quite recently, I've had trouble finding the right books and good opinions on them. Since I discovered "Goodreads", an app and a website ,( https://www.goodreads.com) most of those problems have been solved.  "Goodreads" is an online site with thousands of reviews, ratings and recommendations on books. Any books can be searched and marked as "read", "to read" or "currently reading". If a book is marked as "currently reading" there is a option of entering the page number that you're on and the percentage of progress through the book will be shown. The Beginning of my trip in EUROPE!

I apologise for my absence from uploading blog posts for the past few months, but it is partially due to a family holiday spent in Europe. Spread throughout this post and several other future posts, I’m going to share with you my amazing experience and recommendations from all over the continent in the cities of London, Dublin, Paris and Rome. Firstly, in London, there were so many famous landmarks and buildings to see, we didn’t run out of things to do until the end of the week. Highlights included Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and the British Museum. I found Westminster Abbey absolutely incredible. We bought audio guides and got tickets to see inside the Abbey, it was definitely worth it. The building is very old and the architecture is amazing. On the walls and even under the floor are the burial places for the most famous people of British and European history.
