The Sun and Her Flowers- Rupi Kaur


I am quite confused about what to write in this review. As much as I enjoy poetry, I just don’t think that Rupi Kaur’s style of poetry is the sort that I love. I admire how much she breaks the boundaries that poems have been trapped inside and the brave topics she covers, overall it was a very unique book to read. I hate to be picky, but I do prefer a poem that rhymes and Rupi Kaur’s don’t and they seem to delve into lots of different topics and it can be hard to track what they are meaning. 



I really enjoyed the pictures on most pages which are very simple yet they reflect the words within the poems. This was the first actual book of poetry that I have read and it has made me want to read other poetry books to discover how other writers interpret the idea of a ‘poem’. I think that there is a quite specific audience that would love this type of book and I applaud Rupi Kaur for shamelessly expressing herself for others to enjoy. If you liked her previous poetry book “Milk and Honey”, then you would like “The Sun and Her Flowers”  and if you just want a taste of the world of poetry, give it a try!

I stocked up on books from the library to read over the holidays and one of the books I picked up was  A Monster Calls  by Patrick Ness. I must say that this dark and mysterious book wouldn't have been the type I would usually go for, but I was intrigued by the dramatic pictures that crept through the pages of the book. I am a hungry bookworm who is constantly hunting for new, delicious books to devour. Up until quite recently, I've had trouble finding the right books and good opinions on them. Since I discovered "Goodreads", an app and a website ,( https://www.goodreads.com) most of those problems have been solved.  "Goodreads" is an online site with thousands of reviews, ratings and recommendations on books. Any books can be searched and marked as "read", "to read" or "currently reading". If a book is marked as "currently reading" there is a option of entering the page number that you're on and the percentage of progress through the book will be shown. The Beginning of my trip in EUROPE!

I apologise for my absence from uploading blog posts for the past few months, but it is partially due to a family holiday spent in Europe. Spread throughout this post and several other future posts, I’m going to share with you my amazing experience and recommendations from all over the continent in the cities of London, Dublin, Paris and Rome. Firstly, in London, there were so many famous landmarks and buildings to see, we didn’t run out of things to do until the end of the week. Highlights included Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and the British Museum. I found Westminster Abbey absolutely incredible. We bought audio guides and got tickets to see inside the Abbey, it was definitely worth it. The building is very old and the architecture is amazing. On the walls and even under the floor are the burial places for the most famous people of British and European history.
