The Potion Diaries- Amy Alward

After reading The Potion Diaries, I felt I really needed to share this book with you. It was equal parts breathtaking and gripping with a spoonful of humour. With traces of romance and full of adventure, this books makes the perfect read. Full of magic and fantasy, it has a very action packed storyline and some surprising twists that keeps the reader sucked in all the way.

Samantha Kemi lives in a world filled with magic. People are born with skills that are powerful and mysterious- they are called the Talenteds. There is one problem for Sam though, she is ordinary. Her Dad and Grandfather are ordinary and it was her sister who got the Talent in the family. So while her parents put the little money they have towards getting her talented sister the best education, Samantha is stuck in the family shop. She inherited the Kemi skill of alchemy, so she becomes her Grandfather's apprentice. But the future is unclear because the art of Potion making is no longer appreciated. ZA corp invented synthetic ingredients so that they don't have to bother getting the natural ingredients for common potions. This leaves the Kemi family with a hatred for synths and no customers or money…

Then, on the day the Princess turns 18, something goes terribly wrong. Princess Evelyn poisons herself with a love potion meant for someone else. She immediately falls in love with herself and will stop at nothing to be with her true love. The princess's life is in mortal danger and a long lost tradition comes into play. A Wilde Hunt is called. All the alchemists eligible are called to the palace and have to search for a cure for the princess. Unfortunately, one of these alchemists is the King's exiled sister, Emilia, who spent years meddling with evil magic in the woods and is out to get revenge on the royal family. The first one to submit the correct potion will win the hunt and get a huge reward. For Samantha, it could mean the family's troubles would be solved and they could be back in business. It isn't as easy as it seems though, as the truth is uncovered and Emilia will do anything to stop the Princess from being cured, will Sam be able to save the princess before it's too late?

The Potion Diaries was a fairly easy read and it didn't take me long to finish it. Amy Alward writes in a way that makes the reader get to know the characters well and gives an insight into their feelings. The plot really twists and turns and everything that happens in the story, happens for a reason and that's what makes it such an interesting read. The story is told from a teenage girl's point of view as she works through her emotions in what she wants and believes, so I think that other teenage girls would enjoy reading The Potion Diaries

I hope you liked this post and will enjoy The Potion Diaries if you read it. Thank you for reading my blog, if you like what I post and you have something you would like me to write about, please let me know in the comments.
