Bible Study- In your Own Time

This year I have decided to get back into my bible devotions every day. In the past I have written out passages from my bible that I have found significant, but this time I wanted to delve a little deeper. I researched several ideas from Pinterest, but found that I had to tailor my own study to fit into my mindset and schedule. Here is what I came up with:

Since I never have time in the mornings, I decided that my bible time would have to happen after school and homework. Then I had to choose whether to use a resource such as a devotional book or to make it up for myself. I didn’t have any devotion books at the time that fitted the time frame I wanted so I went along and made up my own study which I will explain to you now.

I simply pick a book of the bible that I find interesting and want to learn about (the book I chose to do first was Exodus). Then for each day I write the date and chapter of the book I will cover. I write out what happens in the chapter using a mixture of verses taken from Exodus and my own words. This really ingrains what is happening into my mind and gives me a chance to add my own comments and think about the meanings behind God’s words.

Also, I have found highlighting all the bible verses I use very helpful and I also write verses
and my own words on seperate lines. This I find useful because it makes a clear distinction between what I write and what is written in the bible. I usually write a chapter every day, but sometimes I have to do less when I come across a very long chapter. I also make it important that having bible time is not a stressful situation. I almost always find time but sometimes life just gets busy. That’s ok and God understands. Missing one day is better than missing every day I say. Some days I only get halfway through my study and have to stop for some reason and sometimes I skip a chapter of the bible because there is nothing for me to note in that chapter. I find it important to have freedom in how you meet with God and doing something is better than nothing.

Whether you pray every night or read the bible every morning, whatever you do I encourage you to keep doing it or try something new to help yourself get closer to God. In this post I have simply outlined something that I do and not something that you HAVE TO DO. I hope that you find this insightful and maybe even give it a try! Thanks for reading my blog post, there will be a new one up next week.
