Revenge of the Spellmans- Lisa Lutz

I want to quickly thank Trina for giving me this book recommendation. To check out her blog go to trinamichellehouse.com.au

If you are looking for a fun, entertaining read then this book is for you. Isabelle Spellman is a 31 year old Private Investigator who works in a bar and lives in a dump. She has been attending court-ordered therapy with much reluctance while telling her therapist nothing about her real life. When Isabelle’s best friend, Morty (who is 84 years old) has his wife move away from him, Izzy’s brother starts acting mysteriously, while she herself is getting blackmailed, for some reason, everything in her life needs investigating. By reading “Revenge of the Spellmans” you will discover a new take on the supposedly action packed, super fun job of a private investigator through the eyes of the 31 year old rebellious daughter of the Spellman family. There’ll be car chases, tracking devices and a secret living arrangement for Isabelle Spellman, so what are you waiting for? Get reading!

“Revenge of the Spellmans” is the third instalment of the series but I read it as a stand-alone book. All of the background information was included within the story or through footnotes leading to an appendix. I found the footnotes left by the narrator, Isabelle, to be very entertaining. Also, throughout the novel there were partial transcripts of conversations between her and her therapists or at family gatherings. The roles played by all the characters were very different from each other and contributed to the story in multiple ways. Overall I found “Revenge of the Spellmans” a funny, entertaining mystery book and would certainly recommend it to lovers of mystery and just about anything else!

Thank you for reading another post on my blog, The Pen and Inkpot, I hope you enjoyed reading about what I thought of “Revenge of the Spellmans” by Lisa Lutz. Please let me know in the comments if you have read any other books in this series or by Lisa Lutz and what you thought of them. See you next week for a new post!
