Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children written by Ransom Riggs was such an intriguing read and I really recommend it to lovers of horror, fantasy and YA (Young Adult Fiction). It has a creative plot and includes modified vintage photos that bring the story to life. Although some say that the pictures seem too worked in to the story, I just found them amusing. It is clear that some of these photos are what gave Ransom Riggs the sparks for the story and that's what I love about it. Also, the movie for this book is coming out on September 29 in Australia and the trailer is very intriguing. It looks interesting, though quite dark at times as the book demonstrates. I am hoping to see it and I will let you know what I think of it.

The story begins with Jacob, a boy who thinks he is living an ordinary, boring life. Only once he steps into his Grandfather's shoes does he realise that maybe he's not as normal as he thinks he is. He follows the clues left by his Grandfather all the way to a Welsh island that turns out to be more dangerous than safe. Jacob escapes his Dad to explore the island and once he finds the "loop" he was destined for, there's no going back. When Jacob has the choice of one place or another, will he choose the home that he knows will be dangerous, or the mysterious life with enemies at every turn?

As much as I loved reading this book, the ending of it seemed very weak. I knew that it was a part of a trilogy, but I had hope for more of a peaceful ending. This is because after the enemies are defeated, the children are on the run. They are still in danger, maybe even more than before, but the book ends there.
But the good thing about this is that it has made me desperate to read the next book in the series, Hollow City. Although I have read a mixture of reviews on this, I have fallen in love with the characters and the bonds they share. So no matter what, I just want to read more about what happens to them.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is one Ransom Riggs' most notable works. He is an American writer and film maker which is what inspired the connection between words and pictures for this book. He writes very smoothly and creates a connection between the characters that makes it hard not to think about the book for the days after you've finished it. The concept is interesting and gets better throughout the book. I would recommend it for readers 12+ because there are some confusing concepts, dark scenes and some course language associated with a certain character. There are scary monsters that may disturb younger readers too. If you have read Harry Potter, then this might be a book for you because it involves people with special powers and unique gifts. Overall, any adult or teen would really love Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
