Easter Chalk Art

Easter is a joyful time of the year for celebrating with family or friends. Whether you're hosting Easter lunch or not, it's great to decorate your home with some festive touches. This Easter chalk picture is so easy and effective requiring no special talent or materials. Once you're finished you can frame your picture and put it wherever you like. You can also add this technique to other types of pictures and make artwork for Christmas or Halloween. It is all so easy to do, using things from your own house, you can get started right away.

You will need:

-Black paper (any size will do)
-White (or coloured) chalk
-Scrap paper or scrap magazine
-Tissues or cotton wool
-Scissors
-Pencil

How to make it:

1. Using your scrap paper or magazine cut out your desired shape. This is the shape that the chalk will be outlining at the end. I am doing a cross for Easter which looks quite effective but you could also do fairy lights or a manger for Christmas. I would also suggest drawing your shape on the scrap paper before you cut it out to ensure you get it right.

2.  Place your shape on the black paper in the desired position.  Hold it in place but don't glue it down because it will be removed at the end.

3. Take your chalk and draw lines flicking out from your shape all the way around. Make sure that your shape stays in place and that you don't touch or rub the lines once they're on the page. You can make your lines short or long, soft or hard. Make sure that they go all they way around the shape and are thick and noticable. Depending on the detail of your shape, make your lines shorter or longer.

4. Without removing the scrap paper shape, take a tissue or a ball of cotton-wool and gently rub out from the shape in the direction of the lines. This makes the picture lighter and fuller. Do this carefully the whole way around your shape. This also ensures that the dust and colour of the chalk won't fall off and disappear once it is displayed.

5. Finally, remove the scrap shape from the black paper and place your picture in a frame or by the front door. It is so easy and looks so professional! It is great for every occasion. Balloons for birthdays, angels for Christmas or pumpkins for Halloween. You can experiment with different chalk colours and paper sizes. I hope you love this idea and give it a try in your house this Easter.

Happy Easter!
